You've done it again.
You were making progress.
Things were going well.
Then you did that thing, you know, that thing; that pulled you right back to square one.
And now you're sitting there wondering what is wrong with you.
Why do you keep doing this? Why can't you just... stop?
Most people think self-sabotage comes from laziness. Or fear. Or some lack of discipline.
It's none of those.
Self-sabotage comes from one place: who you think you are.
That's it.
That's the root.
Your brain has a picture of who you are. What you deserve. What's normal for you. What fits.
This picture was created over years; from experiences, from what people told you, from the stories you've told yourself about who you are.
And here's the thing: your brain will do whatever it takes to keep you consistent with that picture.
When you try to do something that doesn't match that picture? Your brain freaks out.
It sees the mismatch as a threat. As danger. As wrong.
So it makes you sabotage yourself to get back to what feels normal.
You start making good money, but unconsciously you perceive yourself as "someone who struggles financially."
So you unconsciously find yourself a reason or reasons to lose the money. Something that pulls you back to broke.
Because that where you feel familiar.
That where the current beliefs you have about you, the world and money make sense.
It's not lack of discipline.
It's your brain trying to keep you consistent with who it thinks you are.
Most people try to fix self-sabotage by working on their actions.
"I just need more willpower."
"I just need better habits."
"I just need to try harder."
But you can't outwork an identity that doesn't match where you're trying to go.
You can force yourself to act differently for a while. But eventually, your brain will pull you back.
Because to your brain, consistency = survival.
And you acting in ways that contradict who you think you are? That feels like death.
The root of self-sabotage isn't in your actions. It's not even in your thoughts or beliefs.
It's in your identity.
Who you think you are at the core.
Until you change that; until you update the picture your brain has of you; you'll keep sabotaging anything that contradicts it.
This is why people can know exactly what to do and still not do it.
This is why smart, capable people stay stuck in patterns that make no sense.
This is why you can read all the books, watch all the videos, hire all the coaches, and still end up back where you started.
Because none of that changes who you think you are.
So what can you do about it then?
Start by asking yourself:
"Who do I think I am when it comes to [the area where I keep sabotaging]?"
Be honest.
Write it down.
That's the root.
Not the behavior. Not the pattern. Not the excuse.
The identity underneath it all.
Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
And once you can't unsee it, you can start to change it.
And to create lasting change on any area of your life, you need a framework and that's where The Framework of Change Mastery comes in.
