Today let's get to the actual root cause of self-sabotage.
The one thing underneath everything else.
Ready?
Fear.
Not the fear of failure. Everyone talks about that.
The fear of becoming someone different.
Because becoming someone different means the old version of you has to die.
And that version; even if it's not serving you, even if it's keeping you stuck; is familiar. Safe. Known.
It's you.
And losing that? That's terrifying.
Most people think they're afraid of failing.
But that's not the deepest fear.
The deepest fear is this:
"What if I change and I don't recognize myself anymore?"
"What if I become successful and I lose who I am?"
"What if I become this new person and people don't like me?"
"What if I outgrow my life and have to leave everything behind?"
That fear; the fear of losing yourself (your current assumptions about you, about the world, your patterns, your habits) is what triggers the sabotage.
Your current identity; It gives you a sense of self. A role to play. A story that makes sense.
And the idea of losing that? Even if it means gaining something better?
That's terrifying.
It's the feeling that the person you've been has to die for the person you want to become to be born.
And your brain treats that death as literal.
It creates anxiety. Doubt. Procrastination. Reasons to quit. Ways to sabotage.
Anything to keep "you" alive.
Even if keeping "you" alive means killing your potential and goals.
The root cause of self-sabotage is fear.
But the cure is courage.
The courage to let the old you go.
And trust that who you're becoming is worth it and be excited about it.
